What does “I bless God” mean?

I've encountered individuals who question why I choose to use the words, "I bless God."  So, I thought I'd share my thoughts here.  I can understand why they questioned my choice of words.  They thought that God could only bless us.  But, in my opinion, that couldn't be further from the truth.  I believe God desires for us to give him everything, to bless Him with every part of our lives.  It is what we were created to do.

Some may even think, how is it possible for God to want a blessing from me?  Little, ol' me?  What can I give God that is going to bless Him?  What do I have that's going to make any difference to God?  I think these questions come to mind because when we think of blessings, we oftentimes think of a monetary blessing, a good deed, or some sort of help that was kindly bestowed to us.  Like, "what a blessing Mike was to give me a ride to the store" or "Ms. Mary blessed me with $5o."  What can I give to... God, the one who created Heaven and Earth?  God surely doesn't need our money.  He owns the cattle on a thousand hills.  God doesn't look at our deeds.  Man looks at what you do, God looks at your heart.  So, when you really think about that, all God wants is you, your faith, your praise, your worship.

"I Bless God" encompasses everything.  By everything, I mean praise, worship, thankfulness, gratitude, adoration, admiration, etc. It can be anything that lifts His name higher.  When we say it, we recognize who He is: faithful, mighty, gracious, merciful.

  • Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.  Psalm 103:2
  • I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.  Psalm 34:1
  • I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.  Psalm 145: 1-2

I am so in awe of the God we serve. He is all knowing, all powerful, and all loving.  I bless Him with all that I have and I implore you to do the same.  Give.  Him.  You.

Love and hugs,
